Watch and Clock Industry

The watch and clock industry was another traditional industry with outstanding achievements in Hong Kong and it was one of the leading manufacturing industries between the 50s and the 80s.

Parts manufacturing and watch assembling used to be the focus of the local watch industry. The two segments were mutually benefiting each other, making Hong Kong watches and clocks sell globally. The segments also gave momentum to the development of the local watch retail sector, generating revenue for Hong Kong.

The subject of this Column is a watch and clock maker. On the Column, you can find a familiar featured figure, that is, an old man of a watch and clock repairing shop. You can also find pictures of the former Yue Man Square and shops in the streets. They may perhaps give you a sense of reminiscence.
